ABOUT

Urbn Surf is Australia’s first surf park. CPR Services were engaged to supply and install a cementitious membrane to the wave pool at their Melbourne facility, which covers an area of approximately 22,000 square metres.

IMPLEMENTATION

This project presented several unique challenges, the main one being the substrate. CPR applied the Sika membrane to a stabilised clay / dirt / aggregate substrate. The substrate, similar to road base, was semi-flexible in comparison to concrete, with significantly less tensile strength and required strict adherence to a number of atmospheric and climatic conditions to facilitate successful application of the flexible membrane.
In addition to the main wave pool surface, CPR also installed many hundreds of metres of combiflex (also from Sika) which is a very long lasting expansion jointing solution as well as various epoxy coatings and joint caulking products. CPR worked closely with Urbn Surf to conduct a large number of trials to establish the most suitable membrane for the challenging substrate.
